1.The global development of MUJI
Muji started in Japan and now has stores in many countries and regions around the world, becoming one of the representative brands of the modern minimalist lifestyle. Its stores typically create a welcoming shopping environment, offering customers a full range of services from home to lifestyle.
2. Muji's core philosophy
- Minimalism
MUJI emphasizes simple design style, pursues simple and clean appearance, and removes complex elements of functional design. - Priority to function
MUJI's product design is centered on practicality, focusing on product functionality. Ensure that it can be used efficiently in daily life. - The use of natural materials
MUJI promotes the use of natural materials, reflecting respect for nature and concern for the environment. The focus is on resonating with the environment and users, creating a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.
3.MUJI offline inspection
4.Design opportunity
Through this offline inspection of MUJI stores,
We found that the core of MUJI's design is simple, practical, natural and environmentally friendly. In order to uphold this design concept and build an ideal life under the brand, lamps are an indispensable part.
Although MUJI has sub-categories of products, it does not highlight the concept of strengthening nature, and there is no whole series of products. Therefore, our opportunity is to design a set of lighting products that highlight natural materials, not only to meet the lighting needs, but also to bring warm and relaxed living experience to users through design and material.
Convey MUJI design philosophy
MUJI's design philosophy emphasizes harmony between people and objects. We hope to integrate MUJI's minimalist aesthetics and functionality into daily life through the design of wooden lamps, conveying a "less is more" attitude to life.
Explore the natural temperature of wood
Wood is a natural material with warmth and affinity, and its texture and touch can bring comfort and relaxation. We chose wood as the main material, both to highlight MUJI's respect for nature and to convey this warmth to the user's living space through the lamps.
5.Product definition
Using the classic design pattern, we designed and produced a muji style wooden lamp for the masses who pursue simple and practical.

Product1:Simple Light
1.1Sketching
Idea: Create a lamp that has both practical functions and can change according to user needs. Through the modular design, users can freely splice and adjust the shape and size of the lamps to create personalized light and shadow effects. The selection of natural wood and environmentally friendly materials not only conveys the warm texture of nature, but also conforms to the concept of sustainable development.
1.2Material testing
1.3Final physical presentation
Design description:
This modular wooden fixture combines MUJI's simple design philosophy with traditional stitching techniques, giving it a high degree of interaction and personalization. Users can freely combine modules, adjust the shape and light effects, and create a unique atmosphere. The selection of natural wood, taking into account environmental protection and sustainability, not only meets the functional needs, but also adds warmth and creativity to the space, both practical and artistic.
Product2:Wood Glow
2.1Sketching
The idea is to make a simple square frame out of a simple wooden material, the supporting pillars are polished with grooves at 2mm intervals, which can be wrapped with string, and the inner rings are cut with grooves to store matte transparent paper to reduce direct light, and finally connect to the bulb base.
2.2Straw model construction
2.3Final physical presentation
Design specification:This is a lamp mainly made of wood and rope materials, the shape of the use of simple straight lines to design, the whole tends to be square. The use of rope and transparent adhesive paper as a medium can reduce the stimulation of internal light on the human eye, so that the light becomes soft. The wick uses warm light, which makes it easier for people to relax and comfortably fall asleep in such light.
Product 3:Glow Beam
3.1Sketching
Idea: simple, convenient, modular The whole product has only 3 parts composed of acrylic lampshade, one of the base and the top cover triangle body shape can be adapted to the horizontal and vertical two forms of placing.
3.2Straw model construction
3.3 Final physical presentation
Design Description: This lamp uses acrylic and solid wood as materials combined with muji's simple and modular concept, the lamp base log is directly sculpted rather than splicing, the acrylic lamp shade uses a corrugated surface to disperse the light and has a more atmospheric sense in the scene, and the whole package can be simply assembled with only three parts.

In this design process, I adopted the classic design mode, that is, I did not rely on computer modeling and rendering, but carried out the preliminary idea by hand drawing 1:1 sketches, and then directly purchased materials for making and testing the sketch. This approach has given me a whole new perspective on product design.
First of all, hand-sketching allows me to focus more on the basic idea of design and truly feel the fluidity and proportion of each line and shape, rather than relying solely on the virtual effect on the screen. In this way, I have more flexibility to adjust the direction of the design and make sure that every detail fits my design concept.
More importantly, in the actual process of making grass mold, I deeply realized the huge impact of product material and size on appearance design. When selecting materials, different textures, weights and operability directly affect the presentation of the final product. The adjustment of size also allows the design to be continuously optimized, especially to find the best balance between size and function. In order to select the best material and the most suitable size, the appearance design of the product went through many iterations, and finally found the most suitable expression.
This handmade and experimental process not only makes me closer to the essence of design, but also allows me to constantly improve my ideas and creativity from practice. This was a very meaningful design experience, which made me realize that design is not only an idea on paper, but also a constant collision and integration with materials, sizes and practical operation.LiPeiYu
This is my first complete attempt to design and make a usable product using the classic design mode. This hand-rubbing experience also enables me to have a deeper understanding of the material and combination of a product. This classic working method can make me understand the problem of this product more intuitively and how to update it later. During this period, I did not use the assistance of electronic products, and most of my time was spent on drawing, material selection and production. Although there were a lot of problems when I was measuring the scale and assembling the model, I felt very happy to finally make the physical product.

Fortunately, I gained a wealth of knowledge and practical experience during the study of this course. During the study of this course, I used the classic and traditional design methods, discovered a new continent without the assistance of any electronic products, learned the basic skills of hand-drawing when drafting drawings, and consulted books for the first time to acquire design knowledge. Try different materials production methods, production processes, in the process of learning a lot of new knowledge and ideas
